Captain's Message July

Hi to all members. The weather has been fine but challenging and the courses have all been excellent, which I hope has added to your golf through these mid-summer days of the golf season.

A few Messages:

1. The Heineken 4 Man Team Competition on the 5th August has four team spaces still available. There will be a charity raffle in aid of the Butterfly Trust for Cystic Fibrosis with the prize being a bottle of 40 year old Spey Valley single malt. Kenny Houston has volunteered to sell the raffle tickets.
2. Etiquette in the club house; we are a mixed club with both female and junior members so please curb your language and give due respect to all members.
3. Mobile Phones are not to be used in the club house lounge. Please step outside if you need to take a call.
4. Railway Room – we are moving all our items out and handing back the keys at the end of July 2017.

Golf:

As said, the courses are excellent but we need to bring some issues up with the Troon Links Forum:

1. Rakes for all courses;
2. Rabbit damage through all courses.

Club Championship/Peter Howie - the Match Secretary has struggled to complete the draws for these competitions due to the number of withdrawals.  Please note the date in your calendar for future years as we will be finalising the top 25 earlier to ease this hassle for the Match team.

Fees - there are still some members who have not yet paid their fees; non-payment will exclude these members from the Club Championship/Peter Howie and future competitions.
Club House

The Catering and Bar Staff are providing an excellent service and we have ensured that our prices are attractive to members to encourage you, the members, to support the club and use these facilities.

Access to the club house using the new fob entry system is still being resolved with SAC and Fortress but you can request your new fob from the Administration team. There are a few small lockers still available to members.

Finally:

The notice boards are being re-organised within the club house and all notices will be copied on the club website. The competition calendar is available on the website and hardcopies can be provided.
We have over 50 new members, who are finding their feet within the club and it is intended to have a members evening where new and older members are welcome to attend. This will be held before the end of August 2017.

Enjoy your Golf,
Peter Doyle.

Captain's Message - 1st June.

Clubhouse: At last we have the keys to the clubhouse, having signed the lease, and the clubhouse is available for members to use. Over the next two weeks facilities will be activated; these will include the bar equipment which Heineken will install on 1st June, food facilities, coffee machines, and televisions, all to improve your use of the club house.

Subscriptions:  Recently an email about members’ fees was distributed and now that we are in the clubhouse, members will be able to pay their fees. Payment by cash or cheque can be made to Henk Tor or Hugh McKenzie or other committee members as indicated in Henk's message. The membership email was sent to ensure that any member wishing to resign is able to easily transfer their details to their new club effectively. Now that we are in the clubhouse we hope that all members will now pay their fees promptly.

Opening hours: Separate notices will be provided on bar opening and access to the clubhouse. The intention is that the club will be open every day. More details will follow about the provision of catering by our new staff.

Having taken this step into the new facilities, it's now up to you the members to tell the committee what you actually want. This is a new start for the club and it's your club so please support us as we make the facilities available.

Regards,
Pete Doyle.

Joint Senior/Junior Presentation of Prizes - 17th February

There was happy gathering of almost 80 people at the combined Junior and Senior Prize-giving in the South Beach Hotel which included proud parents and relatives, on hand to enjoy the occasion and share an enjoyable free Buffet.

Our resident Professional, Gordon Mckinlay was on hand to present the Trophies with his usual style and panache. Sadly for us at the Welbeck, Gordon has decided to retire from his post after 27 years. Gordon will enjoy some quality time with his family, especially his new grand-daughter and will actually be playing some golf and involving himself in new projects. Gordon received presentation gifts from the Junior  and Senior Sections and thanked the company in his usual graceful and eloquent fashion.

Special thanks to Junior Convener Alec McCrone and Isobel Stirling for organising  the Junior Golf and the Prize-giving, and especially to  Joe Carson and his Match Team of Alan Blackwood and Brian Reid for all their hard work, often in difficult circumstances, culminating in the Senior Prize-giving. Well done Lads!
Thanks also to Stuart and all the staff at the South Beach for making us so welcome and looking after us so well.

Club Championship and Peter Howie Trophy

The matchplay knockouts for the Club Championship (Scratch) and Peter Howie (Handicap) trophies were held throughout the week, culminating in the finals on Friday.

The four finalists battled it out on Friday with heavy rain for the first few holes but then the weather improved quickly with a beautiful night for playing golf in Lochgreen which was in excellent condition.

Ian Smyth became the new Club Champion, beating Alan Hayes in a closely fought game that ended and the 21st  hole. Here is Ian proudly holding the trophy at the end of the contest. Well done Ian.

Taylor Boyd beat Tom Bell 5&3 in the final of the Peter Howie handicap trophy. Tom was up against it from the start and never really got going against a rock - steady Taylor Boyd.   Well done Taylor.
Save the Children Fundraiser

Congratulations to Reggie Milaszkiewicz and Ken MacNiven on winning our Save the Children mixed foursomes on Sunday. They will now go forward to play in the final at Glenbervie on Tuesday 6th September. Isabel McNicoll and George Oldham were close runners-up. We raised £190 for the charity through entry fees and raffle ticket sales so thank you to everyone who contributed.

Bill Taylor retains Barrie Quaich

On a glorious evening for golf, Bill Taylor scored well clear of the field to retain The Barrie Quaich in the recent Past-Captains Competition held over the Fullarton Course on Thursday night with a score of 44 points.
Although numbers were low with 8 playing and 3 more attending the prize-giving in the South Beach Hotel, everyone enjoyed themselves, the food, the company and the banter was excellent. Hugh McKenzie was the Mystery Holes winner with 10 points. Thanks to Stuart and Jonny Watt at the South Beach for looking after us.
See Gallery for latest pictures.
