The Ladies and the Senior men played their annual four ball Competition over Fullarton on a very sunny Tuesday evening. Twenty players took part with the winners being Maria Watson and Bill Duffy with a net score of 59. Runners up were Flora McPhail and Jim Jeffrey with Margaret Morrison and Neil McInnes taking third place. The night was rounded off with a delicious buffet in the clubhouse.
Captain's day at Welbeck Ladies Golf club took on extra significance this year. Following the untimely death of much loved former Captain, Margaret Owens, in the early spring, present Club Captain, Hazael Brown was determined that every effort should be put into raising funds for pancreatic cancer research.
Guests from all the clubs with which Margaret Owen was associated: Ayr Dalmilling, Belleisle and Troon Bentinck joined Welbeck members in a very special and fun Texas Scramble competition. The winning team, captained by Belleisle's Pat Ferguson, was Helen Davidson, Lindsay Smith and Maria Watson. Just pipped for the top spot were Flora McPhail, Sandra Shackelton and Charlotte Von Schoor, ably captained by Bentinck's Irene Fraser.
Douglas Owens, Margaret's husband presented the prizes in an excellent raffle and these funds were heroically supplemented by the efforts of Dalmilling Captain, Maureen Knox. She took on a 36 hole golf challenge sponsored by Dalmilling, Belleisle and Seafield Ladies, raising a magnificent £330.
The whole occasion was extremely enjoyable and it is a great credit to all concerned that the wonderful total of £780 was raised to support pancreatic cancer research.
